Beef up Security: Bengal CM to Senior Cops

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee took stock of police presence in the foothills with senior state officials regarding the spurt in arson and violence in Jaigaon, Bagrakot and the tension prevailing in the plains.
She asked the Darjeeling Police Commissionerate and Jalpiguri Police to step up security in the trouble-prone areas, including, Darjeeling More, Sevoke, Devidanga, Panitanki and Salugara, to avert community clashes in Siliguri and Jalpaiguri. She also took stock of vehicular movement along the Siliguri corridor that provides lifeline to Sikkim.
With large police force deployed in Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong following the 51-day standoff in the Hills, the CM felt there was a need for fresh deployment in the foothills and the plains. TOI
